14 Things to Buy at Dollar Tree: My Top Frugal Finds! (2024)

Want to go shopping for supplies but are low on budget? Dollar Tree has some of the most affordable finds to help you stretch out your dollar!

It’s my go-to place for home essentials and I’m excited to share my top finds you can add to your cart, too.

14 Best Things to Buy at Dollar Tree

Most people avoid Dollar Tree, thinking it sells cheap, low-quality items. While there are a few items you should not buy from the dollar store, there are also great deals you should definitely check out.

Here are my top dollar store finds!

1. Household Essentials

There are quite a number of household essentials you can purchase at Dollar Tree, including light bulbs, flashlights, lint rollers, and bleach.

In addition to these, you can also buy items for home organization and maintenance, such as trash bags, napkins, paper towels, and hooks. Your options are practically endless.

2. Home Decor Supplies

Transforming your home into an aesthetic and relaxing space doesn’t have to be expensive.

You can actually replicate expensive decorations using items bought from Dollar Tree, such as mirrors, vases, artificial flowers, picture frames, and candles.

Buying these items from the dollar store allows you to personalize your home and save money at the same time!

3. Greeting Cards

Are you the type that sends greeting cards for every occasion? Then you better check out Dollar Tree for a greeting card before the next one!

Although not as grand as the ones you buy for $5 or $10, greeting cards from the dollar store also offer a variety of designs and messages.

The best part? You get two for a dollar most of the time.

4. Gift Wrapping Supplies

Aside from cards, you’ll also find a great selection of wrapping paper, gift bags, and ribbons in Dollar Tree.

You can choose from simple to elegant designs as well as themed options for specific occasions you’re attending.

It’s quite practical to buy these gift-wrapping needs from Dollar Tree since they’ll be ripped anyway.

5. Party Supplies

Dollar Tree is a haven for party planners because it offers cheap decorations like balloons, streamers and banners, lanterns, confetti, LED lights, party favors, and more!

Personally, the dollar store is also my go-to for party tableware since they offer themed plates, napkins, cups, and tablecloths that are both functional and decorative.

6. Aluminum Foil and Food Storage

Dollar Tree offers aluminum foils with varying thicknesses, ideal for kitchen needs like lining baking sheets or wrapping meal leftovers.

They also have different food storage options like airtight containers, freezer bags, and sandwich bags.

Not only that, most of their options are reusable, so you can transition to a more sustainable and affordable lifestyle.

7. Snacks and Candy

For those who love snacking or have a sweet tooth, this is your sign to head over to the nearest Dollar Tree and treat yourself.

They offer discounted prices for gummies, chocolates, crackers, chips, and other candies and snacks you can share with friends and family!

Of course, Dollar Tree has both familiar snack brands and new brands for you to discover.

8. Plant Supplies

The plant lover in you will surely do a happy dance once you see the gardening tools and supplies offered at Dollar Tree.

They have varying pots and planters, digging tools, seed starter supplies, watering cans, and a lot more.

Dollar Tree also offers budget-friendly garden decors, including solar lights, stakes, decorative fences, and lanterns.

9. Cleaning Supplies

Cleaning supplies at dollar stores tend to deplete quickly because many consumers hoard them.

It’s understandable, though, because where else can you buy dishwashing soap, multipurpose cleaners, sponges, and brushes at such low prices?

Although these supplies usually come from generic brands, they do the job much like their expensive counterparts.

10. Personal Care Supplies

Some of the common personal care items you can purchase at Dollar Tree are toothpaste and toothbrushes, deodorant, wet wipes, soap and body wash, razors, cotton balls, and even feminine hygiene products.

The brand and quality may vary depending on the branch, but they are guaranteed to be cheaper than many commercial brands.

11. First Aid Supplies

Medical supplies needed for first aid are usually quite expensive when bought from big medical stores. Luckily, you can purchase them from Dollar Tree for almost half the price.

Some of the first aid supplies available include antiseptics, gauze, band-aids, bandages, cotton balls, and saline solutions.

12. Office and School Supplies

Whenever I run low on supplies like pens, glue, and tape, Dollar Tree is also my go-to. They have lots of options to choose from, and they sell them in packs, which makes it easy to stock up!

These stores are also complete with educational supplies, including notebooks, highlighters, folders, envelopes, index cards, and even teaching tools like maps, globes, charts, etc.

13. Books and Puzzles

Some of the most overlooked items in Dollar Tree are their books.

But if you take time to explore their shelves, you’ll see that they have pretty cool novel and children’s book selections. There are also coloring books for adults and kids alike!

Aside from these, you can check out their puzzles and brain teasers perfect for your offline entertainment.

14. Pet Supplies

Pet supplies for our furry friends can sometimes balloon into hundreds of dollars if we always opt for well-known brands or if we have them shipped from distant places.

Good thing, Dollar Tree offers cheap alternatives that pretty much have the same quality.

You can purchase leashes and collars, treats, toys, urine cleaner, poop scooper, and other items for your pets on a trip to Dollar Tree!

4 Things to Avoid Buying at Dollar Tree

Of course, I won’t end this guide without sharing the items I avoid buying from Dollar Tree.

I’ve created this list considering both quality and safety.

1. Vitamins

You should exercise caution when buying vitamins and supplements from Dollar Tree and other dollar stores since they’re not heavily regulated.

In other words, you may be buying counterfeit items without knowing it, which can be detrimental to your health in the long run.

If you really want to buy vitamins from the Dollar Tree, ensure they have an independent stamp of approval so you get an assurance about their authenticity.

2. Batteries

Although batteries from dollar stores are cheap, they often run out quickly and leak, which can damage the gadget you are trying to power on.

Worse, they may even cause an explosion.

While I’m always on the lookout for great bargains, the potential danger of batteries exploding is a risk I’m not willing to take.

3. Electronic Accessories

Electronic accessories found in Dollar Tree are often junk. They are cheap because they do not meet the standards of our trusted brands.

You’ll find that electronic accessories, like chargers or extension cords, break easily. They may also cause damage to your gadget or even start a fire.

4. Baby Products

Buying baby products from Dollar Tree may seem money-saving, but it’s actually not.

This is especially true when you purchase bottles, pacifiers, and containers which are not BPA-free.

BPA can cause nervous system issues in your child as well as delay in behavioral development.

Meanwhile, cheap baby shampoo and soap from dollar stores often contain synthetic fragrances, paraben, and other chemicals that may irritate your child.
