The summer solstice is here, which means the Coachella Valley is about to get hot — really hot.
Life in the desert may slow down a little, butthe fun never stops. That's because summer in California is meant to be savored andenjoyed.
Summer"officially"starts June 21and ends Sept. 23. And as everyone knows, the Coachella Valley sizzles all summer long.

Attend the Lavender Festival
Celebrate the lavender harvest season with lavender-inspired dishes to taste, live music, horse-drawn hay wagon guided tours and more. While it may be sizzling in the desert, it’s most likely a comfortable day on top of Mount San Jacinto. State Park volunteers offer guided nature walks every weekend through Sept. 1. Choose between the Desert View Trail, a 1.5-mile walk, and the Long Valley Nature Trail, a 0.75-mile loop. Both trails are easy in difficulty and suitable for families.

Visit Joshua Tree National Park
The Joshua tree only grows in the Mojave Desert, and this is one of the largest forests of them. Unfortunately, climate change threatens these amazing trees. But this national park is about more than Joshua trees. It is an excellent place to see two different eco-systems, the Mojave and Colorado deserts. The contrastcannot be missed. (Note: The summer is extremely hot in the desert. Use caution when planning a trip outdoors.)

Thishistoric Rancho Mirage estate is where the late ambassadors Walter and Leonore Annenberg entertained world leaders and society luminaries. Visit the McCallum Adobe Museum
