Don graduated from Washinton Irving High School with the class of 1948. In the fall of 1948, he enrolled at West Virginia University in their Forestry program. The following year he was hired as a mold maker with Hazel-Atlas Glass Company, employment continued for 38 years at the same location and served as Continental Can Company, Brockway Glass Company, Anchor Hocking Glass Company and Newell Glass Company.

During his retirement years he was extremely proud of making his stainless- steel belt buckles and after Joretta passed away, he began working on the stainless-steel portraits of Jesus that he hand chipped. He donated many to area churches in the Clarksburg and Bridgeport area.

Don was an avid hunter and Trout fisherman. He was able to buy a one room schoolhouse in Franklin WV and added onto it for a great place in the mountains. After 26 years of joy, he sold it and that was a sad day for the entire family.

In 1964 Don and Joretta took classes in western-style square dancing and were members of the Centennial Squares of Clarksburg and the Y squares of Fairmont, an activity which lasted until 1998. Don served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. He was stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia where he was a paratrooper in the 508th Airborne Infantry Regiment.

We thank the Lord our family had him for 94 ½ years, so now we are going to let our mother and Grandmother have that joyous reunion with him and what a reunion it will be.

The family would like to thank Graceful Living in Edmond Oklahoma. Steve and staff for the excellent care they gave Don during his last few months. Also, Thank you to Humanity Hospice for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s memory can be made to Humanity Hospice 1109 N. Bryant Ave Ste.100 Edmond, Ok 73034 or a charity of your choice.
